Individual Photographer’s Fellowship

Alexia Foundation for World Peace (Photography Competition)
Established in memory of Alexia Tsairis, an honor photojournalism student at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, and victim of the terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland.

Alicia Patterson Foundation
The Alicia Patterson Foundation Program was established in 1965 in memory of Alicia Patterson, who was editor and publisher of Newsday for nearly 23 years before her death in 1963. One-year grants are awarded to working photojournalists/journalists to pursue independent projects of significant interest and to write articles based on their investigations for the The APF Reporter, a quarterly magazine published by the Foundation.

Archibald Bush Foundation Artist Fellows Program
The Bush Artist Fellowships provide artists with significant financial support that enables them to further their work and their contribution to their communities. Fellows may decide to take time for solitary work or reflection, engage in collaborative community projects, embark on travel or research, or pursue any other activity that contributes to their lives as artists. Note narrow geographic restrictions. Michigan residents not applicable.

Christophers : Video Contest for Students
College students are invited to interpret the Christopher belief that “One Person Can Make a Difference” in a short film of five minutes or less, using any style or format, but must be submitted in NTSC format on standard, full-sized VHS tape. Entries over five minutes long will not be considered. Winning entries will be aired on a special edition of the internationally-syndicated television series Christopher Closeup. In addition, winners will receive the following cash awards: First Prize — $3,000; Second Prize — $2,000; Third Prize — $1,000; 5 Honorable Mention Prizes of $100 each. Entrants must be currently enrolled in and attending a graduate or undergraduate program at a college or university. Entries will be judged on overall impact, effectiveness of conveying theme, artistic merit and technical proficiency.

Databazaar Scholarship Fund
A funding opportunity for undergraduate students in the fields of visual communication, broadcast journalism, filmmaking and photography. Two annual grants of $2,500 each are available to support excellence in the visual fields and promote understanding between the USA and South Asia.

Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Documentary Prize
A $10,000 award given annually by the Center for Documentary Studies. First announced a year after the Center’s founding at Duke University, the prize was created to encourage collaboration between documentary writers and photographers in the tradition of the acclaimed photographer Dorothea Lange and writer and social scientist Paul Taylor.

Duke and Duchess of York Prize In Photography
The Duke and Duchess of York Prize was endowed by the Government of Canada in 1986 on the occasion of Prince Andrew’s marriage. The prize, worth $8,000 is awarded annually to a professional Canadian artist for personal creative work. The winner is chosen from among the recipients of arts grants in the Canada Council’s annual competitions for professional photographers. Administered by the Canada Council of the Arts.

FiftyCrows Fund for Documentary Photography
For thirteen years, the Photo Fund competition has been one of the premier documentary photography programs in the world. Its goal is to enable emerging and mid-career photographers to create in-depth essays that become catalysts for positive action and social change.

GettyImages Grants for Good
From Getty: "We proudly support photographers and communications professionals who use their talents to promote positive change in our world." Grants for Good provide two grants of $15,000 annually, to cover photographer (or filmmaker) and agency costs as they work together to create compelling new imagery for the nonprofit of their choice.

Gordon Parks Photo Contest

An integral part of the Gordon Parks Celebration for Culture and Diversity is the Gordon Parks International Photo Competition which has been conducted by Fort Scott Community College since 1990. More than 4,000 individuals from around the world have participated in this annual program that, inspired by the photography of Gordon Parks, reflects important themes in life such as social injustice, the suffering of others, and family values.

The main aim of this Foundation is to promote research and academic teaching in the natural sciences and photography. Through a generous endowment provided by the Polaroid Corporation in honor of Ansel Adams, the Center for Creative Photography (CCP), the University of Arizona, offers annual Research Fellowships. The program is intended to provide research time for scholars needing to use the archives, photograph collection, or library of the Center for Creative Photography.

W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund
The W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography is presented annually to a photographer whose past work and proposed project, as judged by a panel of experts, follows the tradition of W. Eugene Smith’s compassionate dedication exhibited during his 45-year career as a photographic essayist.

First-time visitors have to register and complete a profile.
